Coolsculpting® Noninvasive Fat Removal
Coolsculpting® now treats inner and outer thighs as well as abdomen and love handles! Call for your complimentary consult.
Coolsculpting® is a groundbreaking, FDA approved, noninvasive procedure that permanently removes stubborn fat deposits in the abdomen, hips (love handles/muffin top), back (bra fat) and now the inner and outer thighs as well. There is no downtime, recuperation, needles, anesthesia, chemicals or surgery involved. Developed by a team at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Coolsculpting® uses safe, effective, natural cooling technology to injure your fat cells without harming the overlying skin. Over a few months the fat cells are slowly eliminated resulting in about 20-25% permanent reduction in the thickness of the fat layer. Multiple treatments and multiple areas lead to the best results. Patients watch movies on our iPad, read a magazine, work on their computers with our office WiFi, talk on the phone or even nap during the procedure.
Coolsculpting® is ideal for the patient who:
- watches what they eat
- want a noninvasive procedure
- wants their clothes to fit better
- wants to look better in a bathing suit
- wants to get back to work, home and exercise immediately
- is within 15 pounds of their ideal body weight
- has realistic goals
- has stubborn fat in the abdomen, hips, back or thighs

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES COOLSCULPTING WORK?
The controlled cooling of the Coolsculpting Procedure targets and eliminates only fat cells (other procedures such as lasers and radiofrequency affect fat cells, but may also affect other adjacent tissue). Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), they will die slowly and are naturally processed and eliminated from the body over time.
In the months following your procedure, there is a general reduction in the thickness of the fat layer in the treated area. If you are an ideal Coolsculpting candidate, you should begin to observe a noticeable, measurable fat reduction in two to four months after a single procedure. Weight loss is typically not appreciated, but flattening of the treated bulge and improved contour is seen.
Four months after your procedure, you can consider additional Coolsculpting procedures to achieve greater fat reduction and body sculpting. Please note that a small percentage of patients (approximately 10-15%) will not appreciate visible results.
Patients experiencing fat layer reduction show persistent results at least six month after Coolsculpting. Longer term studies have not yet been completed. The elimination of fat cells as a result of Coolsculpting is expected to last as long as fat cells removed by more invasive procedures such as liposuction.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR COOLSCULPTING?
The procedure is ideal for those patients who have stubborn or resistant pockets of fat or bulges. Patients who are generally fit, but have small areas that are resistant to diet and exercise are optimal candidates. You can schedule a free consultation with one of our office staff to discuss if Coolsculpting is right for you.
WHY HAVE YOUR PROCEDURE AT KRAUSS DERMATOLOGY?
At Krauss Dermatology, our Board Certified dermatologists will perform your procedure in order to ensure appropriate placement of the cooling plates and maximize efficacy of your treatment. Our office was one of the first practices in New England to perform the Coolsculpting procedure, and we have had tremendous success ever since.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY COOLSCULPTING PROCEDURE?
A specially designed applicator cup will use gentle suction to draw your tissue between the cooling panels (for treatment of the outer thighs, the applicator is positioned with Velcro scraps).
During the first 1-10 minutes you may feel temporary discomfort because of the suction, pressure, and cooling. After that time, Coolsculpting is generally very well tolerated. No topical or general anesthesia is needed.
Depending on what area is being treated, you may be positioned lying flat or sitting up. Most patients read, listen to music, work on their computer, or simply sit back and relax and watch a movie on our office ipad.
Procedure time generally is 1 hour per side treated (the exception is that the outer thigh is treated for 2 hours per side). Most patients choose to treat both sides on the same day for symmetry although you can schedule appointments on different days if needed or if multiple areas are being treated.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY COOLSCULPTING PROCEDURE?
Generally, there is no recovery time after your procedure. You may resume your normal activities as tolerated.
The treated area may look and/or feel stiff and may be red after the procedure. This is normal and will resolve within 30 minutes.
Because of the vacuum suction, you may have bruising and slight tenderness to the touch. This will resolve within a few days to a few weeks.
Within the first two weeks following your procedure, you may experience one or more of the following sensations—tingling, tenderness, cramping and/or soreness. Treatments using the larger applicator on the abdomen and those on the lateral thighs often report more of a stinging and soreness than other areas. Consult your doctor if these conditions persist beyond two weeks or are worsening over time.
